Our doctors at Middle Georgia Orthopaedics are dedicated to providing individualized care for your bone, joint, and muscle needs, including the best in evidence-based nonsurgical treatments.
Degenerative joint conditions such as osteoarthritis are a very common concern for patients. We are proud to offer a leading conservative treatment option known as viscosupplementation for those experiencing chronic joint pain due to osteoarthritis.
How Does Viscosupplementation Work?
For this treatment, your doctor will administer multiple injections to the affected area over a period of time. The injections contain a gel-like fluid called hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring lubricant in the joints that prevents friction in the joint structures. When injected, the fluid can help improve function and mobility, making activities of daily life less painful.
While not all patients experience relief with viscosupplementation, many report significant pain reduction. For those who experience relief with this treatment, the duration can vary. After the treatment effects fade, injections may be repeated.
