Bone Scan

This is a type of "nuclear medicine" test requiring the injection of a small amount of radioactive dye into your vein. This material is distributed to the tissue your physician is interested in studying. A machine is placed over your body to record the results. The radioactive material is removed from your body very quickly after the test is completed.

Before the Test
An injection will be given and you will be asked to wait three hours while the material is absorbed. You may be asked to drink fluids.

During the Test
You will lie down on a special table. The scan will then be completed without further discomfort.

After the Test
There are no special instructions after the test. Your doctor will discuss the results with you.
