CT Scan

A CT scan, or computed tomography scan, is an imaging tool used to see inside your body. This scan combines X-rays with computer technology to create a deeper, clearer picture.

This cross-sectional image allows your doctor to see the size and shape of organs, tissues, and tumors. CT scans are usually given after a patient has experienced severe trauma to the spinal cord, brain, chest, abdomen, or pelvis.

CT scans are painless but time consuming. The patient lies on a table that slides into a cylinder shaped scanner. As the X-ray tube rotates around the table, a two-dimensional view appears on a television screen for your doctor to look.
